Report: Ellis to Raiders

The Raiders have signed former Cowboy linebacker Greg Eliis, presumably to shift the 3-4 outside linebacker to a 4-3 defensive end, according to Calvin Watkins at AOL Fanhouse.

A Pro Bowl alternate in 2007, he was the league's comeback player of the year after returning from a torn Achilles' heel to record 12.5 sacks. He moved from defensive end to linebacker in 2006.

The initial thought was this could help send Derrick Burgess packing, but remember: they collected a few 30-something defensive players during this time last year (Greg Spires, Ed Hartwell) only to cut them during training camp.

Ellis turns 34 in August. The deal is reportedly for three years, indicating the Raiders want him around more than they did others who usually got one-year contracts.
