The Raveonettes - In And Out Of Control
Scott Heisel on 10/6/09 @ 10:39 AM

[4/5]

The Raveonettes built their great-love sound by subverting the doo-wop tenets throughout pop music history and sending them crackling through their amps. With melodies honed and sonics perfected, the Danish duo of Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo begin their fourth full-length, In And Out Of Control, with a satisfying "Bang!" and never slow, even through the darkest of subject matter ("Suicide," "Oh, I Buried You Today"). Innovative use of loops and squelches dress up "Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed)," and Foo's assertion that "those fuckers stay in your head" could easily reference the catchy songcraft throughout. The ode to an overdosed lover, "Last Dance," is a career statement, crowned with a chorus and bridge that 99 percent of pop confectioners never quite achieve. (VICE) Reed Fischer
