The young girl on the cover is taken from one of the best known paintings by the French artist Georges de La Tour (1593-1652): The New Born Child.
Housed in the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rennes, it was probably painted around 1645 and depicts either a family scene or the Nativity of the Virgin. Or perhaps both?
The model for the child in the young girl’s arms could have been Marc-Antoine Charpentier, who had just been born in Paris around this time. |
