10 CDS FOR A DESERT ISLAND: CLAUDIO CAVINA
Claudio Cavina
Claudio Cavina is the most famous Italian countertenor of his generation. He studied with Candace Smith and Cristina Miatello, later undertaking specialized studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Kurt Widmer.

He has collaborated with important international vocal ensembles such as the Huelgas Ensemble, La Colombina, Al Ayre Espanol, the Clemencic Consort and Elyma Ensemble.

A committed recital artist, his many appearances include opera and concerts at La Fenice in Venice, Florence, La Scala Milan, the Verona Arena, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Musikverein in Vienna.

He has recorded more than 60 CDs including Alessandro Scarlatti’s La Cantata di Natale (Opus 111), De vita fugacitate (Glossa), In Natali Domine (Accent).

In 1995 he founded La Venexiana, a vocal group specializing in the Italian madrigal repertoire that has since become one of the leading ensembles in the field. Among a number of prestigious prizes won by La Venexiana are the Premio Cini (1999), the Prix Cecilia (1999), Gramophone award (2000), Cannes Classical Award (2001) and a Grand Prix du Disque (2004).

Claudio Cavina teaches at the International Course at Belluno (Italy) and the Tsuru Early Music Course (Japan).
