I hate snow as much as the next guy -- maybe more than the next guy. I don't mind a dusting or the pretty little flakes. Like most of you, I hate the shoveling and the commute-related bull. But I'm not here to gripe about it -- I'm sure I'll do that deeper into the season.
No, I'm here to point out that every cloud has a silver lining -- even snow storm clouds, it seems.
In this case that silver lining comes in the form of a "snow emergency" for members of the Diablos Rojos mailing list. Today we got an email promising half off anything during the storm and the lead-up to it.
The e-mail read: "Enjoy the "snow emergency" at your closest Diablos Rojos Restaurant tonight or all day tomorrow with half off any item! Whether it's a $100 bottle of wine or your favorite entree! Celebrate the great blizzard by getting out in the snow and SAVING $$$! Bring in a copy of this email to receive the blizzard special on any (one) regularly priced menu item through midnight Wednesday night. Limit one item per person."
I'm not sure this offer is for everyone but, but seeing it made me wonder what other creatives ideas Milwaukee businesses are using to get people out during the storm. Share the ones you've seen using the Talkback feature below.

So joe, are you one of those people who has self control? If the conversations got fuzzy after a couple of belgians, I'm guessing not?

I was at Cafe Hollander last night and we asked about that special (hoping it was extended a day). If I remember correctly (conversations get a little fuzzy after a couple belgians), she said they plan to offer deals like that throughout the winter. Good news for those of us who can go to a bar/restaurant and not get loaded... unlike the commenters who seem to have no self-control and assume the rest of us are the same.

A blizzard is a great time to get loaded and drive. There are fewer vehicles on the road and if you crash, you might be able to get away with it. However, it is still a little dangerous because if you go to a bar this winter, you'll probably smell like smoke which could lead to officers guessing that you were at a tavern. Next winter, without smelling like smoke, you'll get away no problem. But wait, that's a bad thing...another reason to oppose the smoking ban!

yes. every bar should encourage people to come out during a blizzard and drink. who cares about people's health and safety when you can get them in the door and sell them alcohol.

Great post, I think the #d4ad tweetup (www.D4ad.com) isn't a bad way to get people out and about in this great city. Stop by today! d4ad event starts at 5pm at the Milwaukee Ale House and goes until 8pm. d4ad is in reference to a twitter tag/ "Drinks for a difference" The event benefits charities. Thanks!
