Akiba's Can Culture Demystified

The Akiba-kei have a penchant for canning everything. It all started 16 years ago when electronics store Chichibu denki decided to bring sell the first canned food product - the oden in a can or the oden-kan from the Tohoku prefecture to Akihabara. The oden-kan was sold in vending machines outside the shop and they were said to warm many a pair of hands and filled many a stomach during cold wintery days when people had to wait in the queue.

MAID CAFE REVIEW: Pinafore 2

Pinafore 2 is the much-improved version of the iconic store that put Akiba maid cafes on the map with Densha Otoko in 2005.

Two Moe Shrines @ the Holy Land

A truly Akiba-kei shrine is one that marries moe and IT. One of the sacred spots of the Holy Land is this little shrine at Pinafore maid cafe, made famous by the movie Densha Otoko where the protagonist frequents in the story. The Japanese pray by bowing and then clapping twice before bowing again. At the moe shrine, the reward for your devotion is a rare appearance of the moe goddess.
