ADOPTION OF THE GUIDELINES FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM VIOLENCE

On 18th November, the Committee of Ministers adopted the Council of Europe's Policy Guidelines on Integrated National Strategies for the Protection of Children from Violence. In line with the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and of the UN Secretary-General’s Study on Violence against Children, the Guidelines promote the development and implementation of a holistic national framework for safeguarding the rights of the child and protecting children from all forms of violence.

More largely, the Guidelines aim at stimulating a much needed change in the perception of children as persons and right holders and fostering a culture of respect for the rights of the child.
