Report: LucasArts President, Execs Resign

LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez has resigned after just over two years in the role -- one he himself assumed following his predecessor's resignation.

The company confirmed the departure to consumer weblog Kotaku, which reported that several other execs exited alongside Rodriguez. The reasons for his departure are unknown.

Rodriguez, former COO of Electronic Arts Los Angeles, was appointed in April 2008, just after prior president Jim Ward stepped down, citing personal reasons, after four years' tenure.

Jerry Bowerman will take an interim leadership role while the company searches for Rodriguez's replacement. Bowerman sits on the Board of Directors for Star Wars house Lucasfilm, of which Star Wars: The Force Unleashed developer LucasArts is a subsidiary.

Rodriguez oversaw the company during a time of ups and downs; while Force Unleashed was an enormous success and the company forged a strong partnership with BioWare for The Old Republic, for example, the company's efforts to nurture new properties have been mixed.

But at the beginning of this year, Rodriguez told Gamasutra that the company was continuing to focus on internal development and expansion efforts.

They could do far worse than handing Jerry the job for reals. Assuming he'd want it.

Until they leverage their Star Wars universe into social/casual games/apps I don't see the end of this tunnel. Wishing the best for some of the greatest entertainment IP out there, to continue the Lucas legacy...

Is it too early to say that The Force Unleashed is a cursed property, in the same vein as the Madden covers, but instead of athletes, the curse hits company presidents?

What...

...too early?

They bailed on the adventure games and now Telltale has stolen their thunder...the Monkey Island re-release made me hopeful though.

They need to re-invent themselves again. Be innovative.
