I serve as Gamasutra's Editor-at-Large. I am still not entirely sure what "Editor-at-Large" means, but an online definition search of the phrase "at large" suggests that it could mean "Editor on the Loose," and I think that freewheeling imagery really captures what I'm all about, as evidenced by that wild and wacky photograph on your screen.

Currently I also co-host the weekly Idle Thumbs podcast, the current incarnation of a gaming culture site I helped found in 2004.

Prior to my role at Gamasutra, I was Editor-in-Chief at Shacknews, where I worked for three years and spearheaded the site's shift from news aggregation to publishing original reporting and in-house features.

Authorities report I am still at large.

Timothy, That is absolutely the ...

Timothy, That is absolutely the case. I'm planning on running a story in the next couple weeks that examines the average years of experience of game developers, and the percentage of devs who reach various milestones before leaving the industry. There's a lot of churn.

Stephen, Tim's comment is a ...

Stephen, Tim's comment is a dismissive bit of snark that has little if anything to do with the actual story. He's made it clear countless times in the past that he's not a fan of that particular RTS gameplay model. The point of my reply is that it is utterly ...

Andrew, Have you played the ...

Andrew, Have you played the SC2 beta Battle.net is enormously more fleshed-out than it was in SC1, and the latest content patch they released yesterday has added even more stuff, including achievements and a heavily redesigned UI. As a side note, I was a pretty big player of Battle Chess ...

Tom, I'm guessing not, because that has no impact on what teens spend money on. Whether they get the money from their parents or their own jobs, they're still deciding how to spend money. There might be a difference there, but it's no difference to the market.

Comment In: Opinion: Are Starcraft II's Ladders Its Biggest Flaw? [News - 04/13/2010 - 05:05]

To address the article in particular which I should have done earlier , Chris--I'm conflicted about the ladder. Your point is very well-put. I think the idea of one big ladder is a tough one I feel more invested in my progress with the current system because it feels like ...
