GO Proud Calls on Steele to Resign

Michael Steele 200912 x390 (getty) | Advocate.com

Gay Republican group GO Proud is calling for Michael Steele to step down as chairman of the Republican National Committee after making “inexcusable” remarks criticizing the war in Afghanistan at a fundraiser in Connecticut.

“Michael Steele’s comments regarding the war in Afghanistan are inexcusable,” GO Proud chair Christopher Barron said in a statement. “These comments are not just another gaffe that can be explained away, they represent a fundamental failure to understand the importance of winning the war on global extremism.”

Steele said the following at the fundraiser: "The McChrystal incident, to me, was very comical. I think it's a reflection of the frustration that a lot of our military leaders has with this Administration and their prosecution of the war in Afghanistan. Keep in mind again, federal candidates, this was a war of Obama's choosing. This was not something that the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in.

"But it was the President who was trying to be cute by half by building a script demonizing Iraq, while saying the battle really should in Afghanistan. Well, if he is such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that's the one thing you don't do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Alright, because everyone who has tried over a thousand years of history has failed, and there are reasons for that. There are other ways to engage in Afghanistan."

GO Proud joins a growing chorus of influential Republicans calling for Steele’s resignation.

Let's face it, the appointment of Steele was the GOP's pitiful attempt to racially match the election of Obama. Steele is a disaster. Minorities not going to vote republican because they are just as racist as the rich and succesionist White men (young and old) who always vote GOP. But now The racist White voters are going to feel put out because of a biracial presidency and a Black chairman. The GOP never intended on having viable Black representation. Steele only indicated desperation. Steele needs to go because he's a dumbass, but if it was a White dumbass, the GOP would just say he was "feisty.".......Oh GO Proud is a farce.

But it doesn't bother GoProud that the Republican party's platform includes a desire for a constiutional amendment to ban same sex civil marriage equalit for born gay/lesbian taxpayers, keep the unconstitutional DADT which wastes millions of tax dollars a year and weakens our military, and make being gay/lesbian illegal and resulting in being thrown in jail? And don't say you don't vote on one issue. The Republicans destroyed our environment and economy. You people are self-haters who are mentally ill and should be institutionalized. Thanks to you party, you'll all be in jail soon anyway.

I have to point out I don't think the Repubs will 'force' Steele to resign. Moreover, he probably has NO intention of doing so. The Repubs are trying to attract minority voters. If they fire Steele, a black man, it will send the wrong message to those they are trying to woo. Steele can just about get away with murder; and he KNOWS it!

Advocate editors need to respond to the questions posed by readers. How much money is GOP-roud paying you to publish this crap? Why are you damaging our community by getting into bed with these self loathing gays? How many anti-gay politicians do they need to support before you realize the damage that you are doing to our community?

@ResignThis I agree with you. It feels almost like recruiting. How many Democratic gay groups are out there and they rarely get mentioned here? And I'm sure they things they are doing are far more in the interest of our community and not for big oil, or like in this case, for keeping the war on Afghanistan. Advocate please stop paying attention to these clowns. Their views and opinions don't matter to us or the GOP for that matter.

Why is the war on "global extremism" being waged in Asia? It seems to me that the good old USA is responsible for its fair share.
