Research Groups

The School¿s research is organised into four main research groups: social, biopsychology, cognitive and developmental as summarised below. Full details of the research activities of all individual members of staff can be found under their personal pages.

Applied Social Psychology

This group pursues applied work in the areas of health and social psychology - issues associated with forensic and investigative psychology, health and lifestyle, and safety research. The group has an international reputation in contributions to these diverse areas.

Biological Psychology

This group pursues empirical investigations of both human and animal psychopharmacology and human ingestive behaviour. Our work is funded by research councils, government agencies, charities and industry, and individual researchers are recognized internationally as leaders and opinion formers in their fields.

Cognitive Science and Neuroscience

At Liverpool we have a strong research profile in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience with several internationally renowned research teams working on a broad set of projects.   Our research has been supported by the ESRC, EPSRC, the British Academy, the British Psychological Society, the Independent Television Commission, the Pain Relief Foundation, the New York Sense of Smell Institute and the Wellcome Trust.

Developmental Psychology

The Developmental Group’s work focuses on Language Acquisition, with a particular emphasis on grammatical development. Group members are recognized internationally as leaders in their fields, and have been highly successful in securing external funding for their research, both from research councils (e.g. ESRC), and from charitable organisations (e.g. The Leverhulme Trust).
