Policies & Permits

Montana State Parks host millions of visitors annually. Managing resources for tomorrow's generations, while making sure visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience today, can be a challenging task. Policies and permits help the public and managers plan for activities, protect resources, and enhance public safety. A wide range of activities may require a permit—from planning a company picnic, filming a motion picture, operating a commercial business, or even hiding a geocache.

These permits are provided to help Montanans and their guests use and protect their park system. These permits represent the most frequently requested permits. Other permits may be required for use. Refer to individual park pages for additional details.

A comprehensive list of permits and fees approved by the FWP Commission can be found in the Biennial Fee Rule. Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Parks staff by e-mail or call them at (406) 444-3750 for more information.
