State Parks Volunteers

The Montana state parks system consists of 50 parks and over 300 fishing access sites. Maintaining these special places requires a lot of attention. This requires the help of an army of dedicated volunteers. Each year, volunteers serve as campground hosts, visitor center attendants, naturalists, and assistants on special projects. They volunteer so that current and future generations may enjoy these special places as much as they have.

Individuals and groups can take an active role in making Montana a better place to live or visit. You can help on a one-time project or a recurring, long-term project. No matter what level of commitment you choose, Montana state parks will work with each volunteer or group to develop a project for their area of interest.

You can lend a hand in many ways:

  • volunteer occasionally to help maintain parks, visitor centers, campgrounds, or fishing access sites;
  • "adopt" a park or fishing access site by performing maintenance regularly;
  • volunteer for an evening or a season presenting interpretive programs;
  • serve as a campground host or visitor center attendant;
  • complete a Scout troop project;
  • volunteer at special events;
  • inventory artifacts and historical documents;
  • take photographs of a park or event;
  • donate to a nonprofit "friends" organization; and
  • much more.
