Milwaukee loves a fish fry, but they can be pretty similar. Cod. Perch. Cole slaw. French fries. Potato pancakes. When it came time to pick a favorite, though, our readers decided to emphasize the entire dining experience at Lakefront Brewery Palm Garden. The Brewhaus Polka Kings, with accordions and lederhosen, helped sway the voters.

For the third straight year, OnMilwaukee.com readers chose Lakefront Palm Garden as the best place in the city to fill their tank with tartar sauce. Lakefront gathered more than 21 percent of the votes in this popular category, which attracted many write-in votes for establishments in every corner of the city. Lakefront's popularity is based on the atmosphere as well as the beer batter. Diners are seated "family style" at large tables, and entertained by the Brewhaus Polka Kings, who gig in lederhosen and strapped with accordions from 6 to 9 p.m.

Ron Faiola visits some of Milwaukee's most beloved fish fry venues in his hour-long documentary, "Fish Fry Night Milwaukee." The film, which made its world premiere in Milwaukee in October, screens Friday, Feb. 19 in Beloit as part of the Beloit International Film Festival.
