1. Payment Summaries for tax year 2009-10
Payment Summaries for the 2009/10 tax year are now available through

2. National study of the academic profession
A sample group of academic staff will soon receive an invitation from
the Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) to complete a
questionnaire as part of a DEEWR-commissioned study of the attitudes of
Australian academics to their profession. The questionnaire takes about
20 minutes to complete and invites reflection on staff members' identity
as an academic. Findings will be used to inform national and
institutional academic workforce planning. All responses will be
anonymous and participation is voluntary. The approach to sampled staff
has been approved by the University. HREC number 1033553.1. Enquiries:

3. HR Policy Consultation - Development of HR Policy
HR Chancellery is seeking input from interested staff on the above draft
policy until Friday 23 July. This policy sets out the principles and
processes for the development of HR policies. Staff can review a draft

4. Careers and Employment - new jobs system
Careers and Employment has recently changed its jobs system, Careers
Online. It is now powered by Career Hub, which is used by over 30
universities in Australia and New Zealand. Current students and staff
can login at: careersonline.unimelb.edu.au/.

5. Upcoming European Commission 7th Framework Program Grants
The next major round of FP7 calls will open soon, and there are already
drafts of the various 2011 work programs circulating. All calls and
accompanying documents (work programs, guides for applicants, etc), will
be published on the CORDIS website: cordis.europa.eu/fp7/calls.
The FEAST discussion paper includes a practical list of best-practice
methods for engaging with FP7. FEAST is available
at: www.feast.org/index/document/3. Of particular note is the
Health area, which has already pre-publicised the contents of the 2011

6. LMS scheduled maintenance windows
Four LMS maintenance windows have been scheduled for 2010 to allow for
planned system updates or technical fixes to be applied, which may
result in the LMS being unavailable for several hours. Staff are advised
to avoid setting assessment deadlines during the scheduled maintenance

8. Provost's Summit 2010 - Making Melbourne Graduate Education
Distinctive
The Summit is an opportunity for colleagues from across the University
community to discuss ideas relating to the theme and to share examples
of good practice. Participants will explore the changing national higher
education context, and hear from University staff developing and

9. New Faculty of the VCA and Music website
The Faculty of the VCA and Music has launched its new website:
www.vcam.unimelb.edu.au. The following old sites will be decommissioned
and will redirect to the new site: www.vca.unimelb.edu.au,
www.bmus.unimelb.edu.au and www.vcam.unimelb.edu.au. The
www.music.unimelb.edu.au website will remain accessible for several
months but will no longer be updated. Staff members who maintain

10. Location change - Digital Print Centre
The Digital Print Centre has finalised its move to the first floor of
the Arts Centre and is fully operational. The Centre is available to

11. Cornelius Regan Trust 2010 Award
The second round of the Cornelius Regan Trust 2010 Award for the
Professional Development of Academic and Professional staff is now open
for applications. The fund provides recognition and assistance to
outstanding academic and professional staff by enabling them to pursue a

A backdrop DVD of University images is available from Marketing and

13. New episode of Visions available
This week's episode of Visions looks at how visitors to the University
can print their own 'books on demand'. The Custom Book Centre, or
'espresso book machine' as it is known, is a collaborative project
between the University Library and Melbourne University Bookshop which
makes it possible for books to be printed literally on-demand. Get the
