What's that? You forgot to get a gift for the cousin that you never see but who will be present at the holiday gathering? You pulled Bob's name in Secret Santa and you know nothing about Bob? You detest shopping? Look no further than this handy ten pack of Amazon gift cards. Here are some facts about the gift cards: 1)What would I be handing to my gift recipient? These gift cards are the traditional plastic kind. Also note that Amazon sells gift cards in various formats. You can get gift certificates that you print at home, e-gift cards delivered via Facebook, and e-gift cards delivered by email. 2)How are the gift cards packaged? You get a stack of ten cards that come in a single, fully closed (non-zipper) plastic bag that must be torn open in order to remove the cards. My stack of gift cards arrived in a nondescript bubble wrap mailer. 3)Does the buyer receive envelopes or greeting cards? You receive no envelopes and you receive no greeting cards. I chose the generic design with the "a" because this enables me to use the cards beyond the 2011 holiday season. The designs on the gift card vary. These cards come quickly. I ordered on a Saturday night and they arrived on Monday. 6)How much money is loaded on each card? Each of the ten cards is loaded with $10. If you want gift cards that are loaded with more money, Amazon has a couple of gift card pack options of different monetary amounts. Do you need a smaller pack of gift cards? Note: the three pack does not presently come with envelopes. In sum, you cannot go wrong with these cards. Last Friday I was in a bit of a quandary...my boss decided he wanted to get 260 gift cards as holiday gifts for our employees. The first plan was to get prepaid Visa cards but, depending on where you buy those, can cost an additional $2 - $6 per card.(!) The added cost and immediacy of our needs made the prepaid Visa cards a no-go. Someone suggested Amazon gift cards. Imagine my surprise when I found that Amazon does not charge for gift cards (thank goodness) and that they could ship me 260 gift cards in less than 24 hours. What a life saver. Not only that but I overheard some employees talking about the gift cards and how everyone tends to give Starbucks gift cards. One person said: When I opened it and saw it was for Amazon I thought, Finally a gift card I will actually use.I've read other reviews where people feel that if they are buying in bulk that they should receive a discount of some sort. I'm not sure I understand this thought process. Having an Amazon gift card is almost like having a prepaid Visa/Mastercard or Amex. True, you are limited to the items available on Amazon.com but you can get almost ANYTHING on Amazon.com. And you aren't charged the mysterious "service fee" that prepaid cards charge. So really, you are getting a discount by not having to pay the fee. Also once your balance gets low on prepaid cards they can be difficult to use. But with an Amazon.com gift card all of the money goes to your account whether you spend it all at once or not.
