Springtime and early summer are the seasons for windstorms, tornadoes
and hail. Be prepared by putting together a power-outage and storm
survival kit. Assemble your kit in a large canvas tote bag or a
water-resistant storage container. Keep it an easily accessible
place in the basement, in a closet or under a bed.
The Kit Should contain:
- A safe light source, such as light sticks that you bend and shake to
activate, a battery-powered lantern, flashlights or a batter-operated
area lights. Avoid candles, which could start a fire
- Extra batteries
- A high-quality multiple tool that includes pliers, a screwdriver, a
cutting blade and a wire cutter.
- A multipurpose fire extinguisher with an easy-to-read-gauge.
- A well stocked first-aid Kit
Other items you should have available are a battery operated radio for
news updates and instructions from the local authorities, a battery
operated clock, prescription medications and pet supplies.
And don't forget boredom-busters like books, a deck of cards and games.
It can be a long wait till the power returns.
