New year, new reasons to love yoga

Published Jan. 17, 2013

Oh, yoga: the pasttime of hippies and stressed-out soccer moms alike, that blissed-out exercise of Hindu philosophers. It has no demographic, and so it bears no judgement. There's just something so delightfully zen about it (and yes, I realize that I'm mixing Eastern religions here). It's, like, 30 percent breathing, after all. I can get down with any workout regimen that includes something called "heart opening exercises." And it's a great time to get into yoga here in Milwaukee.

Does this T-shirt make me look fat?

Published Nov. 16, 2012

Recently my work schedule caused a change in my lifestyle that included losing my "me" time for fitness and the discipline over the food I ate. I enjoyed it. A lot. But, when I pulled a favorite tee out of the drawer and struggled to pull it over my soft shoulders and padded middle, it hit me. This cannot go on any longer.

Published Aug. 24, 2012

After struggling to perform even the simplest exercise in the CoreAlign program, basically standing up straight, I quickly realized this new form of training was as difficult to execute as it is to explain. The goal is to develop harmonious movement, and my body hit all the wrong notes.

15lbs...3weeks, Day 8

One week down and 6lbs gone. The first week is the easiest because of the loss of what is referred to as ‘water weight’. Carbohydrates carry water into the muscle so when carbs are reduced, water is reduced and this is referred to as ‘water weight’. I’m going to ha...
