Milwaukee goes "Portlandia"

There's a new YouTube video out that gives Milwaukee a "Portlandia"-type introduction. It's pretty cool, so I thought I'd share.

I've only seen a few episodes of the Peabody Award–winning series that's set and filmed in Portland, Oregon. It stars "Saturday Night Live" cast member Fred Armisen and lead guitarist/singer for Wild Flag, Carrie Brownstein. And, it's pretty funny, off beat and acts as a nice travel blog-type vehicle for a city that's already quite buzz worthy.

"Portlandia's" intro segment is quirky and gritty in a good way that makes you want to learn more about the Portland area. The Milwaukee version is similar, if not longer, and features mainly shots of Downtown, the Historic Third Ward and Milwaukee's East Side.

I really like the trend in recent years that positions cities via TV shows. Travel and food shows do this very well. Milwaukee, of course, has its version of a "come to our city" show in "Made in Milwaukee" on the DIY Network. It's great, by the way.

Anyway, enjoy these "Portlandia" intros. The real one and Christopher Rice's Milwaukee remake.

bout to get all music snob on you - Carrie Brownstein's primary contribution to society pre-Portlandia was Sleater-Kinney. Crediting her for Wild Flag is like crediting Eddie Vedder for Temple of the Dog.
