1. In search of the perfect pizza: Papa Luigi's
I stopped in to the Cudahy location of Papa Luigi's Pizza, owned by Salvatore Purpora and his family. Customer service is a priority here, and I wanted to check out Papa Luigi's mysterious secret blend of spices.
2. In search of the perfect pizza: Sofia's Restaurant
Selman "Sal" Ismaili, Sr. moved here from Europe in 1973. Between 1973 and 1982, he worked in machine shops and restaurants until he bought Pizza Chef (now Sofia's) in 1982. Due to his passion for food, he created and developed his own recipes, via trial and error, until he was happy with the results.
3. New digs for Juiced!
After a year in business as a mobile juice bar, Juiced! now has a permanent home at 1749 N. Farwell Ave. The vegetarian and vegan juice bar will still roam, however, and will be at East Town and West Town farmers markets this summer.
4. Alterra to open in Madison
On Friday, April 5, Alterra Coffee will open its newest cafe, located in the historic Tenney Plaza building on Madison's Capitol Square.

Pizza Man has announced the hiring of an executive chef for the restaurant, which is scheduled to reopen in June at the corner of Downer and Belleview on Milwaukee's East side.
6. 8-Twelve named best athlete-owned restaurant in America
Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Bryan can add another notch to their win columns - as can SURG Restaurant Group, the entity that operates 8-Twelve MVP Bar and Grill - since 8-Twelve MVP Bar and Grill has been named the best athlete-owned restaurant in America by The Daily Meal.
7. Koppa's Farwell Foods sold
Koppa's Farwell Foods, 1940 W. Farwell Ave., has been sold to Krishveer, LLC, it was announced Wednesday.
8. In search of the perfect pizza: Armeli's
Native Sicilian Anthony "Tony" Armeli opened his restaurant in 1988 and still owns it today. The restaurant serves up a hearty Sunday night buffet featuring pizza, pasta, and broasted chicken. But their thin crust pizza must be seen - and eaten - to be believed.
9. Palomino in Bay View gets a revamp
Palomino will be closed for 4-6 weeks while the restaurant gets a refresh, including a new cafe-style menu.
10. In search of the perfect pizza: Lisa's
Lisa's pizza is a thing of beauty. If you like thin crust pizza, then you should visit soon. It's on my list of favorites and probably will be for as long as it's open.
11. Indulgence Chocolatiers coming to Walker's Point
Walker's Point just got a little sweeter. Indulgence Chocolatiers recently announced that the company will move its production operations from Waukesha to a larger space in the historic building at 211 S. 2nd St.
12. Five O' Clock Steakhouse to be featured on Travel Channel
Five O' Clock Steakhouse, 2416 W. State St., will be featured this Wednesday, March 20 on an episode of the Travel Channel's "Steak Paradise" at 9 p.m.
13. James Beard nominees announced: Aprahamian advances for Best Chef Midwest
The James Beard Foundation announced the final nominees for its 2013 awards from the Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, SC. And Milwaukee has at least one reason to be proud.
14. In search of the perfect pizza: Buddy's Pizza & Steak
Buddy's Pizza & Steak, 6239 N. Teutonia Ave., opened last summer and can be easy to miss if you're not looking for it. I decided to stop in and try their Philly steak pizza (curiously, one of the only steak items on the menu) and the Mexican pizza.
15. Maxie's Southern Comfort gets a name change
Maxie's Southern Comfort, 6732 W. Fairview Ave., announced today it is shortening its name. From now on, the Lowcountry-themed restaurant and bar will simply be known as Maxie's.
16. Belton brings City.Net to East Town
Jazz drummer Sam Belton has long since nurtured his love of coffee in Milwaukee. After dreaming about it for a while, Belton opened his City.Net Cafe in the Enderis Park neighborhood in 2004. Though that location is closed, Belton - who also sells coffee in the County Courthouse - is in his second week of business in East Town, where he's set up his latest jazz- and caffeine-fueled City.Net in the former Dunkin' Donuts at 306 E. Wisconsin Ave.
17. Thai Palace no longer open
The Thai Palace was truly one of my favorite spots to eat in Downtown, just one of the regular businesses you find yourself patronizing so often that it's surprising to look up one day and discover it's gone.
18. In search of the perfect pizza: Andrea's Pizza
It's fun to find a quality food in the middle of an old strip mall. Andrea's Pizza and Restaurant did not disappoint. Their homemade sauce alone was enough to make me want to come back for another visit.
19. Looking into the new Divino Wine & Dine
Walking in to the new Divino - formerly Palermo Villa - as I did last weekend for the first time since it reopened in late December, I was pleased to see both that the place looked familiar, but also new. The layout is the same, but the decor has been completely re-done.
20. Why don't I eat here more often?
I like, and write about, a lot of Mexican eateries in Milwaukee, but I had temporarily forgotten about this one. After a great meal, it's back on my radar.
21. Cool culinary classes for kids
Chef Paul Smitala's 90-minute cooking classes, held in the banquet room at Blackwolf Run Restaurant in Kohler, where Smitala runs the kitchen, teaches kids kitchen basics and, despite the fact that the students range in age from 6 to 9 years old, Smitala doesn't have them cutting corners.

In 1978 Frank Ebert, aka "Big Ebe," grew tired of the construction business and decided to get into the restaurant business. He opened Big Ebe's Pizza, 9125 W. Lincoln Ave., and 35 years later, business is still going strong. I stopped in to try a few pizzas on a busy weekend.

The space on the southwest corner of Lincoln and Howell Avenues is destined to be a Mexican restaurant. Now that Guanajuato moved down the street to new digs, the latest Latin eatery to fill the space is Mr. Webo's, which opened last week.
