After a decade in the making, the new home of the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) is finally opening to the public this weekend. Saturday and Sunday, museum staff are inviting the public to take their first glimpse of the new West Bend facility at 205 Veterans Ave. in West Bend.

You can imagine our dismay yesterday at finding the snake button at the Milwaukee Public Museum inactive. But imagine our surprise a few minutes later when we found and pressed the museum's SECOND snake button. Who knew?!

Located in Two Rivers, the Hamilton Wood Type Museum houses 1.5 million pieces of wood type and more than 1,000 styles and sizes of patterns, making it one of the largest wood type collections in the world. However, the museum is being forced to move and is currently weighing options.

Though the Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear may seem new to me and you, much of the collection has actually been in situ for more than a decade at 839 N. 11th St., a big old house facing the freeway. The home was formerly the office of Avrum Chudnow, who was an avid collector of memorabilia and ephemera from Milwaukee's past, and Chudnow displayed many of the items there, beginning in 1991.
