5.0 out of 5 stars A very different daily newspaper on China
Reading China Daily is a very different experience from that of reading other English-language newspapers' reports on China.

The layout of the paper is well-done, let's get that out of the way now.

The problem is with the delivery - it's always late.

I live in the same timezone as Beijing - UTC+8. It is noon on Saturday the 27th of July as I write this review, and my China Daily e-paper is ... the Friday 26th of July edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very different daily newspaper on China, July 18, 2011

Reading China Daily is a very different experience from that of reading other English-language newspapers' reports on China.

The issue of political bias always arises with the media. China Daily takes a different stand on many issues (than that of other western medias), but it is at the same time scrupulously fair and balanced. It's intriguing to read another side of a story without knowing the native language.

I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, international and cheap!, August 23, 2011
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
I live in Europe and have to say that reading international newspaper is something everyone tells you to do, but as a teenager like myself I never was motivated to try it out. Got my Kindle as a birthday present and scammed through all the newspapers available. At first I tried "The Times", which is the most popular and best newspaper I thought. But after seeing the high monthly subscription price I rejected the thought of subscribing "The Times" in order to improve my english skills. Later I took a glimpse at the "Asian Newspaper" section. "Very interesting", I thought, "to get information directly from countries' local newspapers you nearly have no contact with." And there I found "China Daily US Edition", which was perfect for me: news from China, the largest country in the world, in english and with an affordable price! I took the 14 days trial and was surprised that even with a low price of 4.99$ the articles had a quality compareable to "The Times" and "The Independent". Now I read the China Daily on a daily basis, getting inside-news from China and improving my english skills bit by bit. Try it out yourself! 14 days are for free.

PRO:
- cheap price
- high quality articles
- interesting view from a distant country's newspaper
- articles about china, which are not in the global news

CONTRA:
- censored
(this can also be interesting as you can compare global news from China Daily to non-censored newspapers to get an idea of what the chinese government want their population to not be informed about)

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect newspaper to get news from China, February 28, 2011
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
I subscribed to Shanghai Daily and China Daily at the same time. After several days of reading both of them, definitely I prefer China Daily. The quality of articles is much better than that in Shanghai Daily although in which there are more global news. The second good thing of China Daily is that it's much cheaper than Shanghai Daily. I really don't understand why Shanghai Daily sells better than China Daily because, to me, China Daily is obviously a better choice. If you want to get news about China, then try China Daily, you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it, April 24, 2012

Waking up each morning to a fresh copy of China Daily is awesome. The articles are well-written and give great insight into Chinese and world affairs. If you've got a Kindle, you have to have a subscription to China Daily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chinese Holiday, January 25, 2012
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
LOVED reading The China Daily - didn't seem to be censored at all: articles about filthy air, fetid streams, officials being jailed, etc. But then it stopped ... dead. Don't know why, but for almost a week, no issues whatsoever and Kindle was still charging me monthly. IF it ever starts publishing again, I'd be delighted to re-subscribe but for now, I canceled the subscription for non-delivery.
UPDATE: Apparently it stopped due to some kind of major Chinese holiday; it did resume and I read it every day

5.0 out of 5 stars Good information with good price, December 24, 2010
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
I'm pleased with this kindle version. I used to read this newspaper in China, but I can not buy it in US. The kindle version is text rich and give all materials I want. Five bulks per month is reasonable, which is equal to the price they sell in China.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
My husband is quite interested in China culture and business. Our daughter lived in Behjing for 1 year and Hong Kong for three. We have been twice to China. Every once in a while we purchase a day of the China Daily. He enjoys it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read, January 7, 2012
By
Arion Potts (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
Appearing in my Kindle each morning, the China Daily gives me a great briefing on the latest news in China. As China has world's largest population and the second-largest economy, it's important to me to keep up on news from the Middle Kingdom.

Pros:
+ comprehensive China news
+ news about markets that are important to China (ie Africa)
+ valuable special sections (for example, a collection of several articles discussing issues facing small businesses in this morning's edition, including many revealing that they are having unprecedented issues accessing credit, which may have some knock-on effects for the Global Economy)
+ top-quality writing
+ news about China one or two days ahead of other Western media
+ Low price
+ Morning delivery in Asia/Australasia (extremely valuable to me)

Cons:
+ it's a Chinese newspaper that looks out on the world, not necessarily an International newspaper
+ sometimes the articles are overly esoteric or dull for a general audience (probably great for a specialist on that subject, though)
+ delivery time may not be ideal for Americans or Europeans

2.0 out of 5 stars odd delivery timing makes it unsuitable for readers in Asia, July 26, 2013
This review is from: China Daily (Kindle Edition)
The layout of the paper is well-done, let's get that out of the way now.

The problem is with the delivery - it's always late.

I live in the same timezone as Beijing - UTC+8. It is noon on Saturday the 27th of July as I write this review, and my China Daily e-paper is ... the Friday 26th of July edition.

I am one day behind. I know this because if I visit the China Daily website and read the news online, I am "seeing the future"... all the same content will be delivered to my Kindle tomorrow.

The difference between news and history is recency. The difference between reading online and on my Kindle is convenience.

This subscription offers the convenience successfully, but with none of the recency. I cannot rate it higher than 2 out of 5 stars for this reason.

I have seen the CD representatives reply to other reviews here. I hope they can reply to mine and clarify the reasons for the publishing delay, and whether the delivery gap will be closed in the future.
