Natural gas production
Global natural gas production grew by 1.9%. The US (+4.7%) once again recorded the largest volumetric increase and remained the world’s largest producer
Norway (+12.6%), Qatar (+7.8%), and Saudi Arabia (+11.1%) also saw significant production increases, while Russia (-2.7%) had the world’s largest decline in volumetric terms. Production grew in every region except Europe & Eurasia, where declines in Russia and the UK offset a gain in Norway.
Production by region
World natural gas production increased by 1.9% in 2012. The US once again recorded the largest national increase. Production grew in every region except Europe & Eurasia, where declines in Russia and the UK offset a gain in Norway. Natural gas consumption increased by a below-average 2.2%. As was the case with production, the US recorded the largest national increase and consumption rose in every region except Europe & Eurasia; EU consumption fell to the lowest level since 2000.
Methodology
Gas production comprises marketed production and excludes gas flared or recycled gas.
Natural gas production is provided in three different units of measurement to accommodate regional customary usage. World natural gas production PDF tables are in both billion cubic metres, and million tonnes oil equivalent (mtoe). Data in the Excel workbook are also in billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d).
