2004 Highlights
This issue of LEADER is packed with memorable articles and helpful hints! You'll find advice from a Girl Scout with disabilities in "We Contribute In Our Own Unique Ways," a profile of racecar driver Sarah Fisher, and new ideas for bridging ceremonies. Plus regular LEADER columns that continue to offer timely advice. Here are a few highlights:
One of the most unifying aspects of the Girl Scout culture is the music. A delightful feature, "Sing Along With Us!," traces the role of Girl Scout music and song from the organization's inception. Feel how the power of music binds us together for a lifetime.
"What Makes Girls Feel Safe?" reports on a variety of Girl Scout Research Institute findings about girls and safety. "Inside the Preteen Mind" is based on interviews with 800 girls and boys ages 8 to 12, conducted by RoperASW and commissioned by Unilever with Girl Scout support.
Also featured is an important national project, In the Zone: Living Drug Free. Created by Girl Scouts and The White House Office on National Drug Control Policy, the project emphasizes self-esteem building activities and a focus on healthy, goal-oriented choices.
And don't miss the article "Sugar and Spite" that just might explain some of the behavior you may have observed in your troop or community. The problem is one that GSUSA's P.A.V.E. (Project Anti-Violence Education) the Way aims to combat nationwide.
Check out the newest destination for girls 11 to 17 in the article "STUDIO 2BSM Online: Cyberspace Studio." A lively, well-designed site, STUDIO 2B online features articles, quizzes, polls, e-cards, and an advice column. See how to use STUDIO 2B as a jumping-off point for other activities.
