Linksys (www.linksys.com)
products are relatively popular, and pretty easy to configure
with eDonkey. Take the information from the Networking
Options and enter it into the Forwarding tab in the
router configuration. Chances are, your router can be
accessed here http://192.168.1.1,
If you haven't changed it leave the username field empty,
the password is admin (you should change this). Click
on Advanced, and select the Forwarding tab. You will need
two lines for eDonkey, one for TCP and one for UDP.
Create the TCP line, enter eDonkey
under the 'Customized Application' header. Enter the TCP
port from eDonkey into both fields under Ext. Port. Check
the box for TCP. Under IP address you will need to enter
the address for your computer (What
is my IP?), or in this case, probably just the last
couple numbers. Then check the box under 'Enable'
Create the UDP line the same way as the
TCP line, except entering the UDP port information, check
the UDP box rather than the TCP box. Enter the IP information,
and check the 'Enable' box.
Don't forget to click the Apply Button
in the router configuration.
If you have any other problems, please
consult the documentation that came with the device.
I would recommend using a static IP on
the computer running eDonkey, the documentation should
cover this as well.
Multiple Computers
If you are running eDonkey on multiple computers, set each computer to use a unique set of ports. Then forward each set of ports to the correct computer.
