GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
The former CNR Railway Station is located at the corner of Highway 1 and Old Hope Princeton Highway.
DATE OF CONSTRUCTION:
Around 1915.
ARCHITECT:
John Schofield. During the early 1900's, John Schofield emigrated to Canada from Ireland. In 1907 he became the draftsman for the Canadian Northern Railway in Winnipeg (J. Edward Martin. Railway Stations of Western Canada. p. 61) . As a designer in Winnipeg, he familiarized himself with the railway types in Manitoba, and later adopted the style in his designs of the Chilliwack and Hope railway stations. Just after the Canadian National Railway formed in 1920, Schofield held the position of architect in Montreal (J. Edward Martin. Railway Stations of Western Canada. p. 61) . As the main architect, he was involved in almost every design of the CNR stations and hotels. John Scofield retired in 1948.

USE OF THE BUILDING
PAST: The CNR Railway Station in Hope, B.C. was built to serve the needs of the Canadian railway system. This terminal accepted freight, passenger, and baggage.
PRESENT: Currently it is a restaurant with an area used for community arts. The Hope community sold the former station to the Rainbow Junction Community Arts Society. |
