Home Fort Armstrong Colonel Davenport First Settlers
1816 - 1863
The year 1816 saw the United States westward expansion reaching to the Mississippi River.
Still very much a frontier area, what is now the Quad Cities was primarily inhabited by the Sauk
and Fox(Mesquakie) Indians. Illinois became a state in 1818. By 1863 this area was well settled
by the white culture.
