The intent of this site is to provide background information and history about the island which the Rock Island Arsenal occupies. The following briefly describes the contents within the site.

    The introduction describes the geographic location of the island as well as descriptions of the island from historical figures such as Mark Twain and Pere Marquette.

      briefly describes what the land of the island is used for today.

      Lists what animals and plants inhabit the island today.

    Origins talks about where the island came from.

      the geology of the island.
    • Glacial Era
      talks about the glacial period within the Quad City Area.
    • Prehistoric Land Use
      talks about the land use of the island prior to white culture's arrival.
    • the Spirit Cave
      this is a newspaper article about an exploration of the Spirit Cave by a reporter in the 1840s.

      tells about the first contact by white Americans with the island.
