Accessibility Help

The new Charlton web site has been designed to be simple to use and in keeping with the new Disability Discrimination Act of Oct 2004.

We have added text titles to each link on the site for speaking browsers and added additional fields to all forms and tables in an effort to make accessing the information easier. We have also added a "skip to content" link to take you from the top of the page to the start of that page's content, so that you don't have to fight your way through repetitive navigation and advertising buttons on each subsequent page.

The site has been designed to be navigable without the need for a mouse. We have used shorthand "Access Keys" in the main navigation. You can use these with most browswers by typing ALT+ the access key below and then hitting enter.

For the technically minded amongst you we have built this site to validate as XHTML transitional. This means it should work across browsers and will even work in a text only browser. We then went on to validate through Bobby, the American site specifically designed to test sites and validate whether they are accessible or not. Most of the pages of this site qualify for Bobby Triple AAA status WCAG. The ones that don't, still qualify under Bobby Section 508 which is still a tough level to achieve.

Having said that, that doesn't mean to say that we only want to use computers to test this site. We have called upon disabled friends to give us their feedback, however if you have a problem using this site please let us know by emailing us - we really want the site to work for as many people as possible.
