Looting Town

Derek 'Killer' Hales believes Charlton will be in for a tough encounter when two of his former clubs meet in the Carling Cup at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.

The man they call Killer

Charlton's club record goalscorer started his professional football career at Luton Town in 1972, and he still has fond memories of his time there, enough to stop him placing his £25 charity bet in aid of Demelza Care for Children on an Addicks win inside 90 minutes.

"Luton is one of my old clubs," began Killer, who scored once in seven games for the Hatters before moving to the Addicks for a bargain £4,000.

"When I was there comedian Eric Morecombe was a director and it was a lovely little ground. When I went there from Dartford it was the first time I'd ever moved away from home, so the place holds a lot of memories for me.

"It's a dodgy old ground to visit really for us, a bit like Colchester was recently, but I'm sure we're going to win the tie.

"I'll go for a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes as my bet, but I'm certain Charlton will win after extra-time or penalties."

A 1-1 draw after 90 minutes is priced 11/2 with Charlton's official online betting partners, Paddy Power, but the communications department doesn't have any sentimental links with the Hatters so we're going for a straight 2-1 win after 90 minutes, priced 15/2.
