2008 Competition Rules

Interpretation and implementation of these rules will be the responsibility of track officials.  Any situation not specifically covered in these rules will be acted upon by the official or officials in charge, whose decision will be final and binding on all participants.  These rules may be changed, modified, or deleted at any time for any reason or for no reason by track officials.  These rules shall not be construed in any manner as to create a contract by and between the competitors and the race track.

 

THE RULES AND REGULATIONS SET FORTH HEREIN ARE INTENDED TO PROVIDE FOR THE ORDERLY CONDUCT OF RACING EVENTS AND TO ESTABLISH MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCH EVENTS.  THE RULES SHALL GOVERN THE CONDITION OF ALL EVENTS, AND BY PARTICIPATION IN THESE EVENTS ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE DEEMED TO HAVE COMPLIED WITH THESE RULES.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS INTENDED AS A GUIDE FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE SPORT AND THESE RULES ARE IN NO WAY A GUARANTEE AGAINST INJURY OR DEATH TO A PARTICIPANT, SPECTATOR, OR OFFICIAL.

 

THE DIRECTOR OF COMPETITION SHALL BE EMPOWERED TO PERMIT REASONABLE AND APPROPRIATE DEVIATION FROM ANY OF THE SPECIFICATIONS HEREIN OR IMPOSE ANY FURTHER RESTRICTIONS THAT IN HIS OPINION DO NOT ALTER THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE REQUIREMENTS.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.

 

ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND: IF THE RULES DON'T SAY YOU CAN DO IT, YOU CAN'T.  ASK FIRST.

 

GENERAL RULES

A. CONDUCT

    1.    The track Is privately owned.  Your right to participate can be revoked at any time for violation of any rule.

    2.    The conduct of the driver, crew members and car owner is the responsibility of, and a reflection on, the driver.  Conduct detrimental to the sport will not be tolerated, and all participants are expected to conduct themselves accordingly.

    3.    Drivers will not be permitted to stop on the track to question the flagman or any track official.  Any driver doing so will be subject to disqualification for the remainder of the program.

    4.    The flagstand, infield, scoring tower, and announcer's position are OFF LIMITS to all persons other than officials without express permission of the director of competition.  Violation of this rule will subject the car represented by the guilty party to disqualification.

    5.    Fighting will not be tolerated.  All incidents will be referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency and appropriate penalties will be assessed by officials.

    6.    Any unlawful activity will be reported to appropriate law enforcement agency and appropriate penalties will be assessed by track officials.

    7.    No alcohol or drugs will be permitted on speedway property.

    8.    Anyone entering the pits must purchase a pit pass and sign a release to enter pit area.  Employees, vendors, and those with season pit passes or complimentary pit passes must also sign release.  Purchase of a pit pass permits a driver to participate in only one (1) division or series for that event.  Participation in any other division or series will require purchase of a separate pit pass at the regular rate of $20 for each additional division or series.

    9.    All drivers must register their full name, social security number, address, phone number, car number and class with track officials before racing.  Each driver must complete and execute a W-9 form and biographical form each season.

B. GENERAL

    1.    Drivers MUST be registered to participate in point awards at end of season.  Pit pass fee will be $20 per person per event.

    2.    If a division has a season sponsor, participating cars must display a decal if provided by the sponsor to be eligible for season awards.

    3.    All participants track insurance regulations.  Drivers in all divisions or series are subject to approval by track officials.  Drivers MUST be 16 years of age to compete in the Late Model Division/Series, with younger drivers eligible subject to approval by track officials.  Anyone under 18 competing in any division or series must have parental consent form on file with the track.  The track management reserves the right to approve or disapprove any driver, regardless of age, depending on skill level demonstrated.

    4.    A single car may not compete in more than one class per night.

    5.    Only race team service vehicles will be permitted in the pit area without express permission from the director of competition.

    6.    The number of cars starting the feature race in any division or series will be subject to the track's discretion.  A consolation race may be presented to fill the final spots in a feature race.  Track management reserves the right to line up the start of any race in any manner or fashion to promote competition.

    a.    Under normal procedure for regular race events, the previous regular event's feature winner will start the feature in sixth position, provided he or she qualifies in the top six positions.  If the previous regular event's winner does not qualify in the top six positions, his or her starting position will be determined by qualifying time or finish in the consolation race, whichever applies.  A regular event feature winner who does not appear for the next regular event will start the next regular event feature for which he or she appears as close as possible to sixth position in the outside row, with the most previous event feature winner starting sixth, and others to whom this rule is applicable starting eighth, tenth, etc.

    7.    After a car has been qualified it cannot be requalified for any reason.  Any driver changes must be reported to track officials, and the change will result in that car starting from the rear in the consolation race.  If there is no consolation race, the car will start on the tail of the feature.  Failure to report driver changes will subject the car to disqualification for the night, with other penalties possible at the discretion of track management.

    8.    Rough driving will not be tolerated.  Cars may be sent to the rear of the field even though neither car has spun or has brought out the caution flag.  Track officials’ judgment will prevail in all cases.

    9.    In the event of a caution flag period, cars will NOT race back to the caution flag.  If the white flag has been displayed to the leader, cars will race back to the checkered at the discretion of the flagman.  Deliberate spinning or otherwise damaging of a competitor on the final lap in such situations will result in the offending car being placed at the rear of the field in the final finishing order and the offended car being awarded the position in which it was placed prior to the incident.  Officials' judgment will prevail in such cases.

  10.    For restarts following a caution flag, the field will be lined up single file according to the running order of the last green flag lap except for cars directly involved in the incident according to officials' decisions, which go to the rear.  Cars which have been lapped will be placed at the rear of the restart field according to their running position.

  11.    If any car is unable to make the starting lineup, each row of the field will move directly up.  Rows will not be criss-crossed.

  12.    The pole sitter will determine the pace of the start at the discretion of the starter, and the lead car on restarts will determine the pace of the restart, with the starter to have discretion over this area and to direct the pole sitter if necessary.

  13.    Passing will be permitted only on the outside of a restart until the designated start line in Turn 4 is crossed.  No passing will be allowed on any start or restart until the green flag has been displayed and the designated starting line in Turn 4 is passed.   After passing the designated starting line, passes may be made on the outside only.  No passing will be allowed on the inside until the official start/finish line in the middle of the front straightaway is passed.  Brake checking will NOT be tolerated.

  14.    The red flag means STOP.  Drivers must slow down as quickly as safely possible and stop.  The driver must remain in the car under red flag conditions.  In conditions of extreme heat, drivers may be given verbal permission by track officials to exit the car.  However, no adjustments or repairs may be made to the car with hands, tools, or by any other means.  Drivers who exit their car without express permission from track officials, and cars on which any work is performed, will be subject to immediate disqualification from that race, and if disqualified will receive no money for that particular race.  Any car which passes the scene of the accident which caused the red flag condition after having already passed under the red flag will be disqualified for the remainder of that particular race.  In the event of an accident too close to the start/finish line to allow cars to stop in time, officials’ judgment as to intent will apply.

  15.    Cars experiencing flat tires must go to the infield or pit area immediately, whichever is quicker.

  16.    Any car which goes to the pit area during a race, whether that race has been officially started or not, may not be allowed back on the track during that race without approval by track officials.  Cars which go to the infield in such circumstances may return to the track at the discretion of track officials.

  17.    Cars which leave the track under red flag conditions, whether by wrecker or under their own power, and do not return, will be scored for the finish according to their last completed green flag lap.

  18.    When the layover flag is displayed, the car to which it is displayed must move to the outside of the track unless other instructions are given to drivers prior to the event.  If the layover flag or the black flag is ignored consistently, the car to which it is displayed will not be credited with remaining laps.

  19.    Any race may be declared officially complete at officials' discretion if the halfway point has been reached, or if an inordinate time delay is expected prior to the track being ready for competition.

  20.    Cars which do not report to the lineup on time will go to the rear if the field has started to move, unless ordered to take their original starting position by track officials.

  21.    The driver is responsible for having the car in line for practice, qualifications and racing.  If a car can not be qualified with its division, it will start in the rear of the feature or, if a consolation race is necessary, at the rear of the consolation race.

  22.    Track management shall designate who shall have exclusive rights to sell racing fuel, tires, and race equipment.

  23.    All weight will be determined by track scales.

  24.    No traction control devices of any kind will be permitted in any division.

  25.    Track management reserves the right to allow or deny any car or any driver from participating.

  26.    Track management reserves the right to have any car inspected at any time.  Any car found illegal will be disqualified for the night and will forfeit all money and points won for the night.  Failure to report for inspection when directed to do so or when required to do so will be considered an admission of guilt and will result in disqualification.

  27.    All drivers appearing for competition for any given event for which points are to be awarded will be awarded points provided they are driving a registered car.  Those not able to start their point-awarding race will be awarded last place points for that event.  If more than one driver is involved, points for the number of positions involved will be determined by previous point standings.  In the event of a tie in previous point standings, the points for the positions involved will be pooled and split between the drivers involved.

  28.    In order to qualify for starting money rather than tow money, a car must answer the call for the feature race and be presented on the track.  Officials' decisions will prevail.

C. SAFETY

    1.    Approved full fire suits (top and bottom), helmets and fire extinguishers are mandatory in all classes.  Fire extinguisher must be freshly charged and be within driver’s reach and have a working gauge.  Halon systems will be permitted.

    2.    Electric fuel pumps will be permitted only in the Slammer and Mini-Slammer divisions under rules specified for those divisions.

    3.    Approved fuel cells will be required in Late Model, Sportsman/Supertruck, Chevette, and Pure Street divisions.  Approved fuel  cells are strongly recommended in all divisions.  Bottom edge of fuel cells must be at least 10" off the ground and protected on all sides.  23 gallon maximum fuel cell permitted unless otherwise specified in division rules.  Fuel pickups must be on top of tank.

    4.    Drive shafts are to be painted white and have approved safety loop.

    5.    Any injury must be reported to track officials before leaving speedway property.

    6.    All cars must have clearly marked “on-off” ignition switches within reach from outside the car.

    7.    Any battery in driver's compartment must be secured and covered.

    8.    Nylon mesh window nets are mandatory in all classes.

    9.    Any fuel lines within the driver's compartment must be steel braided or run through steel conduit.

  10.    Approved racing seat will be required in all divisions.  No fiberglass seats will be permitted.

  11.    In the interest of safety it is strongly recommended all accelerator pedals have mechanical return provision.  Toe return pedal is recommended, along with two safety return springs mounted from two different points.

  12.    Safety harness must be SFI approved and no more than five years old according to manufacturer's date label.  Manufacturer's date label must be readable.

  13.    Any car appearing to be leaking or smoking excessively may be disqualified.

D. MISCELLANEOUS

    1.    Any intentional dumping of oil, fuel, or used tires on speedway property is against the law and will be prosecuted.

    2.    Rainout policy shall be as follows: If one feature race has been completed in any class, that will constitute a complete race program. All other classes will be paid starting money for everyone qualified and there will be no rain checks honored.  If there is a rainout before a complete race program is determined, all qualifying times, dashes and consolation races will be null and void, iincluding any track records, and no money will be paid for any races.  Rain checks will be honored for the following race and all cars will requalify and a complete racing program will be presented.  If rainout occurs before any races have been completed, rain checks will be honored and race program will start from scratch for the following event.

    3.    No removal, alteration or covering of sidewall markings of tires will be permitted.        No removal, alteration or covering of any parts number from any mechanical part will be permitted.  Violation of this rule will result in disqualification.  If the situation can be corrected on the spot, the car will be put on rear of its feature or consolation race.

    4.    Vehicles in all divisions must have a pick-up hook for wrecker.  Disabled cars may be pushed to infield or taken to pit area, whichever is quicker, until race is complete.  The track is not responsible for any damage to any race car.

    5.    No obscene lettering or decals, anything sexually suggestive, or derogatory lettering will be permitted on any car.  All numbers must be of sufficient size and contrasting color to be seen from grandstands and scoring tower. Numbers on top must face passenger side of the car, and must be a minimum of 24 inches in height.  Car numbers must be on windshield in upper right corner at least 4 inches in height.

    6.    Numbers must be registered with Corbin Speedway.  There is a $25 annual fee for registering a car number.  Car numbers will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis with the exception that cars will be permitted to retain their number from the previous year if the number is registered in a timely manner.  No points will be awarded to any driver unless he or she is driving a car for which a number has been properly registered.

    7.    For the sake of time, the track reserves the right to cancel qualifying and line up races in any manner.

    8.    Non-conforming cars may be permitted to race in any division by adding weight as determined by officials in order to promote competition.

    9.    In all divisions, track tire as approved by track management and sold by track will be required.  The track reserves the right to impound any tire or tires suspected of being illegal or to have been tampered with improperly, and provide replacement tire or tires from the track inventory.

  10.    All cars in all classes must have reverse gear in working order and at least 2 forward gears in working order.

  11.    Car body parts lost during race will be taken into consideration for weight loss following feature races.

  12.    No fuel additives permitted.

  13.    Carburetors must be mounted straight forward.

  14.    Single radiator permitted, must be mounted in front of engine.  Overflow must be directed at windshield with no alterations of sheet metal.

  15.    Absolutely no antifreeze will be permitted.  A $50 fine will be assessed for a car found to contain antifreeze whether or not antifreeze is spilled.

  16.    Side window openings must maintain stock size and configuration.  Side vent rollover may not exceed 10 inches in length at lowest point, and must continue 90 degrees upward from that point.

  17.    Windshield mounted rear view mirrors will be allowed only in the Late Model division.  Mirrors must be within the contour of the body of the car.

  18.    In all classes, a small round mirror, no more than three inches in diameter, must be mounted on the forward pillar (the A pillar) of the driver-side door, and must not extend outward more than the contour of the body.

  19.    Two-way radios will be allowed only in the Late Model division.  Frequencies must be made available to speedway officials.

  20.    The starter will take action at his discretion when improper driving is observed.

  21.    All engines must meet standard external measurements.

  22.    Dry sump oil systems will be allowed.

  23.    Noise levels will be monitored in all divisions.  Minimum acceptable mufflers will be supplied by the track at cost.  Exhaust must exit behind the driver.  Cars may not register more than 100 decibels,

measured 100 feet from the track.

  24.    Lexan or comparable front and rear windshields will be required on all Late Models and Sportsman cars.

  25.    Lexan or comparable front windshield will be required in all other divisions.

  26.    No driver's side door windows may be enclosed in any division.

 

RULES SPECIFIC TO LATE MODEL SERIES

(All vehicles must comply with General Rules, except where exempted in this section)

A. ELIGIBLE MODELS

    1.    All cars must be stock appearing American stock factory models 1970 and newer.  No convertibles, pickups or station wagons will be permitted.

    2.    Minimum wheelbase will be 105".

    3.    Chassis may be offset or perimeter.

NOTE TO COMPETITORS:

           Beginning with the 2009 season, only ABC bodies will be allowed in competition.  Older bodies which conform to ABC specifications will be allowed to continue in competition.

B. ENGINE

    1.    Maximum cubic inch displacement will be 360 cubic inches.

    2.    Authorized carburetor will be 500 CFM Holley 4412 two-barrel with round hole.  Top and bottom of carburetor may be checked for 1 11/16 throttle bore and 1 3/8 venturi.  1" maximum carburetor spacer permitted.

    3.    Only 23-degree cast iron heads and cast iron blocks will be permitted.  No 18-degree heads will be allowed.          Any angle other than 23 degrees will be considered illegal for Chevrolet.  Ford and Mopar engines must meet OEM specifications.

    4.    Flat top pistons must be used, either cast or forged.

    5.    For Ford, 2.020 intake 1.600 exhaust valves required.. For Chrysler and GM, 2.020 intake and 1.625 exhaust valves required.  Any steel crankshaft is permissible.  Any type of steel rod will be permitted.  No porting, polishing or deburring will be permitted.

    6.    Minimum allowable combustion chamber size will be 62 cc.

    7.    2" engine setback will be permitted for GM, 4" setback permitted for Ford and Mopar.

    8.    Engines may be subject to teardown for inspection purposes.

    9.    Any bore and stroke will be allowed to achieve legal cubic inch displacement.

  10.    A minimum height of 10 inches from the centerline of the crankshaft to the ground must be maintained at all times.

  11.    Air cleaners must be under hood.

C. WEIGHT

    1.    All Late Models must weigh a minimum of 2800 pounds with driver sitting in seat in full uniform and with helmet.

D. DRIVE TRAIN

    1.    Transmission must be manual or automatic with at least two forward and one reverse gear in operating order.  No hand clutches or quick change transmissions will be permitted.

    2.    Quick change rear ends will be permitted.

E. CHASSIS, BODY, INTERIOR

    1.    Bodies must be “template” style and may be metal, fiberglass or aluminum.  Cars that vary too radically from stock appearing bodies will not be permitted to compete.  Full bodies only will be permitted.  Maximum height of rear deck will be 36 inches from ground measured at back edge of deck not including spoiler.

    2.    No open area will be allowed between deck lid and rear bumper.

    3.    6.5 inch maximum height will be permitted on spoiler, with rear bracing only.  Maximum width is 60". No forward, side boards, or wraparounds will be permitted.

    4.    No rails or bars will be permitted outside body.

    5.    Approved roll cage is required.

    6.    An approved protective bar will be required behind fuel cell.

    7.    Centerline of front and rear may be no higher than 16 inches above pavement when car is in standard race trim.  Subject to inspection and approval.

F. WHEELS

    1.    10" steel wheels only will be permitted, of either wide 5 or 5x5 configuration.

G. ENGINE PROTEST

    1.    Protest fee will be $500.

    2.    Only competitors taking part in the feature race that evening are eligible to file a protest.

    3.    Any competitor wishing to protest another competitor's engine must present the $500 protest fee in cash to the track owner prior to the feature race.

    4.    Track officials will check valve size, CC the heads, check for porting and polishing, check bore and stroke, and for flat top pistons.

    5.    If the inspection reveals the engine to be legal, the protested car's driver will receive $400 of the protest fee, with the track receiving the remaining $100.

    6.    If the inspection reveals the engine not to be legal, the protesting competitor's money will be refunded.

    7.    If the inspection reveals the engine not to be legal, the protested competitor will be disqualified for the evening, will receive no money and/or points for the evening, and will be subject to suspension.
