The following links will
take you to pages that list sites that are BY or ABOUT Indigenous
Peoples of the Caribbean, organized by country, not hosted on the CAC. While the
CAC endeavors to list quality resources, we do not necessarily endorse
the contents of pages that we link to. Visitors will have to use their
own discretion in evaluating those pages, and we welcome any feedback you
may have.

The map
below shows the current coverage of the CAC. Move your cursor across the
map in order to view the dominant indigenous group(s) of the different
areas. Similar maps, including one showing the indigenous names of different
territories can be found on the
page
describing the scope of the CAC.
Of course, in producing these maps,
a series of valid criticisms can be made, as with any map that refers to
ethnic and political realities. One of these is that such maps turn history
into stasis: which groups were where? when? did they call themselves by
these names? Secondly, such maps can reinforce simplistic colonial perceptions
of the native ethnic realities of the Caribbean. In general, these maps
were produced for elementary purposes and uses, as the most simple, basic
starting point toward what we hope will be deeper, more nuanced and more
complex understandings. |
