About Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez
Secretary Gutierrez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1953, and came to the United States with his family in 1960.
He joined the Kellogg Company in 1975 as a sales representative, and worked his way up to CEO in 1999 and chairman the next year.
Secretary Gutierrez was sworn into office in 2005 and is a core member of President Bush’s economic team. He oversees a diverse Cabinet agency with some 38,000 workers and a $6.5 billion budget focused on promoting American business at home and abroad.
Secretary Gutierrez played a key role in the passage of CAFTA-DR, a landmark agreement that strips away trade barriers, expands export opportunities and boosts hope and opportunity throughout Latin America.

He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and refers to himself as a “dusty roads” diplomat, having dedicated years to countries struggling to make democracy real for their people.
During his career, Assistant Secretary Shannon has held a number of key posts throughout world, including Special Assistant to the Ambassador at the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil...Country Officer for Cameroon, Gabon…Director for Inter-American Affairs at the National Security Council…and Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela.
Mr. Shannon holds a Doctorate and a Master's degree in politics from Oxford University, and a B.A. in Government and Philosophy from the College of William and Mary.

She recently urged members of Congress to enact legislation that would allow development in a small portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, assuring them it would be conducted in a responsible and environmentally safe manner.
Governor Palin is also chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She also serves as vice chair of the National Governors Association Natural Resources Committee.

Dr. Lindzen is a professor of meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He pioneered the study of how ozone photochemistry, radiative transfer and dynamics interact with each other, and is currently developing a sophisticated climate model to test whether the proper treatment of cumulus convection will significantly reduce climate sensitivity to the increase of greenhouse gases.
Dr. Lindzen is a recipient of several awards, including the American Meteorological Society's Meisinger and Charney Awards, and the American Geophysical Union's Macelwane Medal. He is a member of the National Research Council’s Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate and is a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at the California Institute of Technology's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

In 2001, he wrote and directed the highly acclaimed Paramount/Showtime presentation, The Day Reagan Was Shot, starring Richard Dreyfuss as Alexandar Haig and executive produced by Oliver Stone.
