Brian Meaney: Councils must do more to 'go green'

07.04.2010 - Brian Meaney is one of several new members of the Irish delegation to the Committee of the Regions. He is a Green Party councillor, sitting on both Clare County Council and on the town council of the county's capital, Ennis. He is also a member of the Mid-West Regional Authority. In the CoR, he is a member of the European Alliance group and the ENVE and COTER commissions.

Social and economic benefit of volunteering reinforces proposal for European Year

30.09.2009 - Declan McDonnell (ALDE/IE) was recently appointed as the CoR's rapporteur on the European Commission's proposal to designate 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering. McDonnell had previously been responsible for the CoR's 2007 opinion on the contribution of volunteering to economic and social cohesion, and here he explains his personal interest in the issue and why he believes it is important for local and regional authorities to encourage volunteering.
