CoR President urges swift implementation of EU’s new “territorial agenda”

20.05.2011 - Future EU laws have to pay greater attention to realities on the ground. This is the key message of the EU’s new “territorial agenda”, endorsed by national ministers in the Hungarian city of Gödöllő yesterday. Committee of the Regions President Mercedes Bresso welcomed the plans, but underlined that they have to be put into action “without delay”.

17.05.2011 - With mobility and employment at the centre of debates, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou, and Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor, will address young people from all over Europe, gathering in the CoR this week.

The Eastern Partnership Policy Initiative and Ukraine - the point of view of the CoR rapporteur István Sértő-Radics

22.03.2011 - István Sértő-Radics is the Mayor of Uzka and has been a CoR member since 2004. He has worked extensively on the Eastern Partnership Policy Initiative, with a special focus on Ukraine. Former Chair of the CoR RELEX Commission and several times Cor rapporteur, he shares his views on the relationship between Ukraine and the EU.

New association gives voice to Europe’s small towns

22.03.2011 - A new European grouping – the Confederation of Small Towns and Municipalities of the European Union (CTME) – was officially launched in Brussels on 15 February 2011. Its aim is to ensure that the voices of Europe’s small and medium-sized towns are heard at European level and that their interests are fully represented.

CoR President Bresso urges 'upgrade' for EU cross-border cooperation

22.03.2011 – Regional and local authorities wishing to work together across national borders are still struggling with red tape, Committee of the Regions President Mercedes Bresso stressed today. Joining Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics at a conference in Gödöllő, President Bresso urged lawmakers to simplify the EU rules governing such cooperation, and open them up to social partners and non-EU countries.

Két magyar projekt a 2011. évi Európai Vállalkozás Díj jelöltjei között

11.03.2011 - Két magyar projektet is jelöltek az idei Európai Vállalkozás Díjra (EVD): a Heves megyei energiahatékonysági programot és a Hotel Pandát, egy olyan budapesti szállodát, amely megduplázta nyereségét, miközben a dolgozók 95%-a megváltozott munkaképességű személy. A díjjal az olyan országos, regionális és helyi szintű kiemelkedő közcélú kezdeményezéseket ismerik el és jutalmazzák, melyek erősítik Európában a vállalkozó szellemet és az üzletbarát szemléletet. Az idei nyertesek nevét 2011. május 24-én, a budapesti Magyar Nemzeti Galériában rendezendő EVD díjkiosztó gálán ismertetik.

The CoR and the Hungarian presidency: shared goals

21.02.2011 - For the first six months of 2011, Hungary will take over the rotating presidency of the EU for the first time since joining the European Union in 2004. The economic crisis and social integration are among the country's priorities for its six-month stint in charge, issues that are also of importance to the Committee of the Regions.

Decentralising reforms and respect for minorities: the CoR calls on its eastern partners to go further

02.12.2010 - Rights of minorities, decentralisation process and financial independence of local and regional authorities: despite the efforts already made by Armenia, Ukraine and Belarus, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) calls on its eastern partners to go further with their reforms. Nearly a year after the first meetings on the subject at ministerial level, and having adopted opinions on Moldova and Georgia last October, the CoR is continuing to evaluate the situation of local and regional authorities in the Eastern Partnership countries. On 2 December the members of the CoR adopted three opinions welcoming the reforms made but highlighting shortcomings in each of the countries concerned, in particular with regard to the allocation of financial resources and the development of local democracy.

OPEN DAYS 2010 European Week of Regions and cities

01.10.2010 - A 2010-es OPEN DAYS – a régiók és városok európai hete keretében Brüsszelben szervezett szemináriumok és workshopok mellett a tervek szerint 263 helyi rendezvényre is sor kerül szerte az Unióban, valamint annak határain túl, „Európa a régiómban/városomban" címmel.

Új magyar küldöttség kezdi meg munkáját az EU regionális és helyi közgyűlésénél

11.02.2010 Az elkövetkezendő öt évben tizenkét választott képviselő közvetíti majd Magyarország régióinak és városainak álláspontját Brüsszelben. A képviselők február 9-én kezdték meg munkájukat a Régiók Bizottságánál (RB), a választott regionális és helyi képviselők európai uniós közgyűlésénél, és Bihary Gábort, Budapest Főváros Közgyűlésének tagját választották meg a RB nemzeti küldöttségüket képviselő elnökhelyettesének és a nemzeti delegáció elnökének.

Eastern Partnership: Luc Van den Brande calls on foreign affairs ministers to introduce a "territorial" approach and proposes mechanisms for cooperation

08.12.2009 - CoR president Luc Van den Brande attended the meeting of foreign affairs ministers of the Eastern Partnership partner countries on 8 December in Brussels to explain the need to add a "territorial" approach and involve local and regional authorities by providing specific mechanisms. The Swedish presidency of the EU had asked him to give this presentation, as part of his attendance at the inaugural summit on 7 May and the ensuing four consultation platforms.

András Szalay presents CoR opinion on media literacy

András Szalay (ALDE), Representative of the Municipality of Veszprém, will present his draft own-initiative opinion on regional perspectives in developing media literacy at the December plenary session of the Committee of the Regions.

A következő hónapokban a Régiók Bizottsága tagjai az általuk képviselt régiókba viszik el az OPEN DAYS rendezvénysorozatot, hogy helyben nyújtsanak tájékoztatást és tartsanak vitákat Európáról. „Európa a régiónkban/városunkban” mottóval a rendezvénysorozat minden partnervárosa, illetve -régiója, valamint más egyesületek és szervezetek is helyi programokat szerveznek.
