    Fabrosaurus Ginsburg 1964 "Fabre's lizard"

FAB-ro-SAWR-us (J. Fabre + Gr. sauros "lizard") (m) named to honor Jean Fabre, a French geologist and a colleague of Ginsburg's on the expedition that collected the fossil in Basutoland, South Africa. Ornithopoda Lesothosauridae E. Jur. SAfr.

    Frenguellisaurus Novas 1986 "Frenguelli's lizard"

fren-GWEL-i-SAWR-us (Frenguelli + Gr. sauros "lizard") (m) named to honor Dr. Joaquin Frenguelli (1883--1958), Italian-born paleontologist who worked in Argentina and did important paleontological and geological work in the Triassic basin of the Ischigualasto-Villa Union. [= Herrerasaurus]

Fukuiraptor Azuma & Currie 2000 "Fukui robber"

foo-KOO-ee-RAP-tor (Fukui + Lat. raptor "robber, plunderer")* (m) named to indicate a theropod dinosaur found in the Fukui Prefecture in the central part of Honshu Island, Japan. Fukuiraptor is a medium-size carnosaur (est. 4.2 m (14 ft)long; 174 kg (400 lbs) in weight), known from a partial skeleton and skull (Holotype: FPMN 97122 (Fukui Prefectural Museum, Fukui City, Japan)) and a left humerus (FPMN 96082443) found in the Early Cretaceous (Albian) Kitadani Formation on the Sugiyama River in the northern part of the city of Katsuyama, Fukui Prefecture, Honshu, Japan. The fossils represent a relatively lightly built animal: the long slender arm is less than half the length of the leg; the ulna is stout and powerfully built, and is shorter than the long slender humerus; the hand has large, well-developed sharp, curved claws, with a particularly large claw on the first digit; the femur is similar to that of large carnosaurs such as Allosaurus; the foot digits, however, are slender compared to other carnosaurs. Some features of Fukuiraptor are reminiscent of dromaeosaurid coelurosaurs, such as the slender limb proportions and the large manual claws, but other details show it is basal allosauroid.

Type Species: Fukuiraptor kitadaniensis [KEE-tah-dah-nee-EN-sis] Azuma & Currie 2000 : for the Early Cretaceous Kitadani Formation. Theropoda Carnosauria Early Cretaceous(Albian) Japan [added 3/2001]

    Fulengia Carroll & Galton 1977

foo-LEN-jee-a (f) anagram for Lufeng, the region of Yunnan Province in which the fossil was found. Originally described as a "modern" lizard, the specimen is probably a juvenile prosauropod. Prosauropoda Plateosauridae E. Jur. China [nomen dubium]

Fulgurotherium von Huene 1932 "lightning beast"

FOOL-gur-o-THEER-ee-um (Lat. fulgur "lightning" + Gr. therion "beast") (n) alluding to Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, Australia, where the fossil was found; originally identified as a small coelurid theropod. Ornithopoda Hypsilophodontidae E. Cret. Aus. [nomen dubium]
