USA, RUSSIA TURN OVER NEW LEAF, SAY BRITONS

Yesterday's summit of Presidents Vladimir Putin and George W. Bush in Slovenia launched a new era in Russian-US relations, says The Sunday Times.
The Sunday Telegraph describes the summit as epoch-making to point out a personal friendship the two presidents started in it. The popular newspaper refers to an atmosphere of sincerity which reigned at the summit. It produced an impression of greater outspokenness than in President Bush's debates with certain NATO countries' leaders.
A majority of British-based media outlets point out an understanding the summiteers made to provide an opportunity for the two countries' experts to have practice-oriented debates on NATO expansion and US national missile defence blueprints--issues on which Russian and American viewpoints are thoroughly different.
The understanding allowed the two presidents to shrug off their differences and focus the summit agenda on efforts for a shared concept of the ways to tackle global problems, say British analysts.
