CREW FROM RYAZAN EMERGES VICTORIOUS AT 2ND INTERNATIONAL AERONAUTIC FESTIVAL

An international aeronautic sport festival, Kaluga-2001, organised by the Russian Aeronautic Society and the Slavneft oil company, is over in Kaluga, 200 kilometers away from Moscow. Twelve balloons from Russia, Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine participated in the competition. Numerous spectators could see also other craft, such as a radio-controlled thermal balloon.
Since all take-offs began from central squares of the city and craft landed in suburbs, actually all city dwellers were spectators.
In the sport programme, the cup of the Russian Aeronautic Society was vied for. The first place was taken by the crew of Lev Mavrin from Ryazan, second by Mikhail Bakanov's team from Zhukovski near Moscow, third by Anton Morev's from Moscow. They shared the 3,000-dollar prize money.
This year's Kaluga aeronautic festival was held for the second time. Its organizers hope that in 2002 the Kaluga festival will get the first category of the International Aeronautic Sport Federation and become annual.
