Safe sex promoted for breaking students
Along with the carefree atmosphere and attitudes that often accompany spring break come the dangers of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases -- that was the message of fliers circulating around campus before break, urging students to engage in safe, protected sex.

Attention for affirmative action enters spotlight
No issue in American politics is more divisive than race relations. And by questioning affirmative action programs, politicians in Washington have stirred a debate that is likely to carry into the 1996 presidential election.

University President Joab Thomas is calling on anyone who has an interest in Penn State to contact legislators in Harrisburg.

Additional charges were filed against the University student accused of holding two fellow students hostage on Feb. 26.

Students lend a hand over break

So they spent their spring break in Harrisburg, both to assist in the classroom and to provide service in local homeless shelters. Sophomore distance runner Erin St. John rode a 13-second cut off her lifetime best in the 3,000-meter run at Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships to make it to the NCAA meet last weekend, where she placed 17th.

Icers fall in finals
Although the Icers were the top seed in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's national championship tournament, injuries built up, leading to a 4-0 loss to No. 2-seed Ohio in the championship game on March 4 at the Tucson Convention Center.
