How can you not fail a coaching staff that was fired for being so poor? Head coach Chuck Long and his assistants failed to get the job done for the third consecutive season and guided the 2008 San Diego State football team to its first ever double-digit loss season. The team ranked 100th or worse in the nation in nine statistical categories and Long – and most likely his assistants, too — depart SDSU with a three-year record of 9-27. In Long’s tenure, the team never finished higher than sixth place in the final Mountain West Conference standings.

In the final game of the 2008 season, SDSU sends seniors out on a high note
With less than 18,000 people in attendance at Qualcomm Stadium (closer to 10,000 if you don’t count the thousands of elementary school students who were there to perform at halftime or the parents who were there to watch them), it could have been a nice quiet way for the San Diego State football team to lose again and bring a merciful end to one of the worst seasons in program history.

A loss on Senior Night to 5-6 UNLV would not only be disheartening, but would put an exclamation point on one of the worst seasons in the San Diego State football team’s history. SDSU has already lost double-digit games for the first time in school history, is on a seven-game losing streak – the longest such streak in 25 years – and is in danger of going winless in conference play for the first time since 1960.

SDSU gets pounded by the No. 7 Utes and loses by 49 at home
If the lopsided stat sheet didn’t tell the whole story of Saturday night’s game, then Utah senior Brent Casteel’s postgame reaction certainly did.

As 28-point underdogs, the prognosticators are already predicting a Utah blowout this Saturday. However, don’t write off the 1-9 San Diego State football team just yet. Playing with nothing to lose this weekend, SDSU might just have a chance against the No. 8 Utes.

Three fumbles and an interception lead to 24 Cougar points
B.J. Williams’ third-down sack should have been the catalyst. The sophomore ran around BYU’s 6-foot-8-inch, 330-pound senior tackle David Oswald, and killed the Cougar’s game-opening drive.

Aztecs put up their second highest point total of the year but still fall to Rams
The outcome of the game was familiar enough. It was another solemn march into the locker room, another night without celebration and another tally in the loss column as the San Diego State football team fell to Colorado State, 38-34.

SDSU suffers 63-point beatdown by MWC rival New Mexico
Pick a negative adjective. Any one will do. Terrible? Atrocious? Horrifying? “Embarrassed,” San Diego State football head coach Chuck Long said to AM 600 KOGO. “I’m embarrassed for us and for our football team.”

Rush for more than 380 yards in consecutive weeks against his defense, tag him after the whistle, or even try to block him with your biggest offensive lineman. Anything you do to Corey Boudreaux won’t matter. The San Diego State football team’s safety will do the only thing he knows how to do: fight back.

Falling to TCU by a score of 41-7 was a big blow for the San Diego State football team, but the biggest loss coming out of last Saturday’s defeat was quarterback Ryan Lindley. The redshirt freshman was ridden out of bounds by Horned Frog linebacker Daryl Washington and landed awkwardly on his throwing shoulder, causing him to miss the final three quarters of the game. Lindley’s injured wing has been feeling better, but it still may cause him to miss Saturday’s game against Air Force.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Lindley, arm in a sling, wincing as he rotated an ice bag around his injured throwing shoulder pretty much told the whole story of Saturday night’s loss to TCU. The Horned Frogs pounded the San Diego State football team, 41-7, at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. The young SDSU quarterback’s injury was just the first of many disappointments in an all-around frustrating night.

Coming off its first victory of the season against Idaho last Saturday, the San Diego State football team won't have much time to celebrate as it heads to Texas to play Mountain West Conference rival TCU this weekend. "TCU is an excellent football team," head coach Chuck Long said. "Everybody is talking about BYU and Utah, but I don't know why they aren't talking about TCU. They are excellent on both sides of the football and have a number of returners back from last year." The Horned Frogs will head into this Saturday's matchup fresh off a loss to No. 1 Oklahoma last weekend. The Sooners scored 35 points against a TCU defense which has allowed just 233.6 yards per game this season.

Atiyyah Henderson gets first 100-yard game since facing Cal Poly in 2006
Maybe it was the jersey change from No. 21 to No. 6. Maybe it was the injuries that kept him out of several games the past two years. Or maybe it was the San Diego State football team's offensive philosophy shifting to a pass-first scheme. Whatever it was, junior running back Atiyyah Henderson seemed to be a forgotten man in the SDSU offense. So much so that even Idaho head coach Robb Akey couldn't call the running back who torched his Vandal defense repeatedly Saturday night by name.
