2008 – Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots is sentenced to eight days in jail for drunk driving.

2005 – Jazz bassist Percy Heath dies of  cancer in Southampton, N.Y. He is 81.

2005 – Eddie Montgomery of country duo Montgomery Gentry seriously injures his left wrist during a show in Asheville, N.C., after he falls to the arena floor from a speaker cabinet onstage.

1999 – Marilyn Manson cuts short a concert in Des Moines, Iowa and abruptly walks offstage after he realizes that someone stuck a large yellow smiley face on one of his stage props. The resulting rowdiness ends in 23 arrests.

1999 – Members of the Verve release a statement announcing their breakup.

1991 – Bonnie Raitt marries actor Michael Noonan O’Keefe in New York.

1989 – Jon Bon Jovi marries high school sweetheart Dorothea Hurley at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.

1988 – B. W. Stevenson dies from complications of heart valve surgery at the age of 38.

1983 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Beat It,” Michael Jackson.

1981 – Bassist Steve Currie of T-Rex dies in a car crash near Val De Parra, Portugal. He is 33.

1980 – Tommy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band dies in car crash in Spartanburg, S.C. He is 30.

1974 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Loco-Motion,” Grand Funk.

1973 – No. 1 Billboard Album: “The Dark Side of the Moon,” Pink Floyd. This is the group’s first No. 1 album.

1969 – Chicago releases its debut album, “The Chicago Transit Authority.”

1966 – Rapper Too Short (Todd Anthony Shaw) is born in Los Angeles.

1966 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Good Lovin’” The Young Rascals.

1961 – Folk singer Cisco Houston dies of stomach cancer at the age of 42.

1946 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Prisoner of Love,” Perry Como.

1938 – Guitarist Duane Eddy is born in Corning, N.Y.

1934 – Blues musician Charley Patton dies of heart disease on the Heathman-Dedham plantation near Indianola, Miss., at the age of 42.
