This Saturday is Halloween and, consequently, the day that most of the city celebrates with trick-or-treat. In Milwaukee, trick-or-treat is from 1 to 4 p.m.
Do you stick around and hand out candy or do you leave during this time? Is trick-or-treat fun or annoying to you? And if you do hand out candy, will you hand over the sugary goods to kids not wearing costumes?
Sound off, Milwaukee, about your thoughts on trick-or-treat. Boo.
Yes, I hand out candy. It's fun to see all of the kids in their costumes. I enjoy it, especially since it only happens once a year. I loved it as a kid and it's fun to relive the spooky magic.
No, I get out of Dodge. I do not hand out candy. Trick-or-treat is expensive -- you blow through so many bags of candy it's ridiculous -- and the constant doorbell ringing is a drag.

Last year I somehow ended up with a surplus of three pronged electrical adapters and coupons for laser vein removal clinics, so I gave those out. The kids really seemed to like the adapters.

I card the parent of any kid that comes to my door and if they're not from the neighborhood then I don't give them any candy. My pet peeve of Halloween is parents driving their kids to a different area to beg for treats. Go beg for candy from your own neighbors.

My boyfriend and I have a tradition of giving out full size candy, since he as a kid, remembers this old guy who gave away the full sizes. So we go to Target and buy in bulk. We get the best expressions from kids.. "a DOUBLE Reeses!" and I have seen some parents strategically tell their young child which one to grab. Last year one girl who lives on our block kept coming back, but I made her work for her candy, since she was a baton twirler. Boy could that girl throw!

If you took candy as a kid you must give it as an adult, case closed. Stop being a cranky old person. A bag of cheap candy costs $5, drink one less beer next weekend and give some kids a little joy.

I hate Halloween. I haven't participated in anything Halloweenish since 5th grade (25 yrs ago). If I'm home, I turn off all my lights and watch tv in the dark. Hopefully I'll remember to leave my house during trick-or-treat hours this year.
