On April 27, 2003, the Bouchard Barge 120 struck an obstacle in Buzzards Bay, creating a twelve-foot rupture in the hull of the barge and spilling between 22,000 and 98,000 gallons of No. 6 fuel oil. The Trustees for this incident, in cooperation with the responsible party, Bouchard Transportation Co., are investigating impacts to shoreline habitat, numerous bird species, aquatic resources and recreational uses of the bay resulting from the spill.

The Calcasieu Estuary in southwest Louisiana is a highly productive estuarine habitat system that supports fisheries for shrimp, oysters, catfish, blue crabs, redfish, and menhaden. Industrialization of the upper portion of the Calcasieu Estuary began in the 1940s with oil refineries and petrochemical industries predominating in the upper 10 miles of the 37-mile long estuary.

The Christina River, a tributary of the Delaware River, formerly supported significant populations of anadromous sturgeon, shad and several herring species. The Christina project spatially integrates contaminant and bioassay data collected by the state of Delaware and three Superfund site investigations with basemaps showing drainage basins, wetland types, fish species distribution, and landuse.
