About the Business Innovation Programme

  • Funded under HEA Springboard, the programme is FREE to eligible applicants who satisfy Department of Social Protection criteria.
  • HETAC Level 8 Certificate in Business Innovation - 40 ECTS credits.
  • Part-time programme based at the DCU Ryan Academy, Citywest Business Campus.
  • Programme commences 26th September 2011 and concludes in May 2012.
  • Committment of 3 days per week including study time.
  • Part-time in-company assignment project.

Objective of the Programme

To enable participants to create or secure quality employment in roles where they can encourage or implement innovative change.

Course Details:

The Programme combines up-to-date knowledge and training in innovation, project management and market research with practical hands-on experience, including an in-company project placement.  As a result, participants are provided with the ideal skills and experience to help them find high quality work.

The Programme is designed to up-skill unemployed graduates and professionals, while building on their existing skills, knowledge and experience.  Innovation is the value added component which will allow you to adapt to and gain competitive advantage in the new labour market conditions.

 

Programme Modules

Innovation Module:

  • Participants are introduced to best practice in the management of in-company innovation to include in-company innovation audits, assessment of innovation culture, generation and analysis of creative design and implementation of an in-company innovation programme.
  • These techniques will be applied to products, processes, systems and services.

Project Management:

  • Participants will gain an introduction to projects and project management through a range of topics including understanding the characteristics of a project, the stage of the project lifecycle, how to plan a project, manage issues, risk and uncertainty.

Market Research Feasibility:

  • Participants will gain a series of practical skills and techniques which will enable them to identify and quantify new market opportunities.

Practical Research Project:

  • To facilitate implementation of innovation within companies, participants will be helped to develop the skills necessary.  These skills will include the capability to assess the needs of clients, how to negotiate constructively, how to build and maintain effective relationships, how to present ideas effectively and how to work in a team.
  • Organisational Culture and change - Participants will learn how to help companies to create a favourable and receptive in-company environment which will facilitate the introduction of an innovative culture.

Once particpants have a solid grounding in these core areas you will be assigned to Innovation Project Teams, to work with a host company for approx. 35 days to undertake innovation assignments.  These assignments are based on agreed company priorities and iniatives that will assist companies implement their innovation agenda.

Location:

The Programme takes place in the DCU Ryan Academy, 3013 Lake Drive, Citywest Business Campus, Dublin 24.

 

Programme Support & Assignments:

  • Participants will be registered with DCU and have the dedicated support of mentors, lecturers and programme managers throughout the programme.
  • Participants will complete 2 Modules in Semester 1 and sit DCU exams in January 2012. 
  • The Market Feasibility Module will be completed throughout Semester 2 and an examination will take place in May 2012.

The Programme is designed to facilitate participants who find employment and are unable to attend classes via: on-line resources.

 

Accreditation:

DCU Certificate in Business Innovation - FETAC Level 8 - 40 ECTS credits.
