This series is best enjoyed with a really good narrator and Lisette Lecat is that. Her reading brings the characters to life. Since there are many unfamiliar places and names in Botswana hearing them pronounced correctly contributes to the enjoyment of these books. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series is not "serious literature" but it is great fun and very entertaining. The characters are engaging and the insight into the day to day lives of "ordinary" people in Botswana is interesting. This book is the latest in the series and does not disappoint. I would recommend starting to listen to the series from the beginning since there are many references to events and people from the earlier books, so knowing some of the background of the characters does add to the enjoyment. This is by far the best non-fiction book I've read in a very long time. Working as a manager of a software firm - I've long known that the best developers, the silent type, thrieve in solitude and letting them be alone will get you the best results. At the same time I've often wanted to foster better team spirit with open landscape seating etc. This book got me thinking and reflecting on both my workplace and friends and family around me. This book is amazing. I was astounded by how much I learned about others and about myself. So many movements that I noticed in my now ex-husband but unfortunately didn't have the knowledge that I have now to read what they meant. If only I had listened to this book years ago!! I've also learned signals that I give of discomfort, so I can listen to myself better instead of reasoning "oh, but they are really a nice person" when around potentially hurtful people. Seems like a long wait since American Assassin, but worth it. This installment continues to give us the background story of Mitch Rapp's early days with Stansfield, Kennedy, Hurly, and in this novel much more on the character of Victor who first appeared in American Assassin. The story works as a stand alone, but when taken within the context of the entire Mitch Rapp series, provides more detail on the characters we have grown accustomed to. Mr. Flynn maintains his great story telling and is complimented by the competent narration of George Guidall. Recommended both for new readers and devoted followers of Vince Flynn's work.
