The ADEME is an Industrial and Commercial
Public Corporation established under the law of December
19, 1990. It is under the supervision of the Ministries
of the Environment, Industry and Research. It carries out
organizational missions on research, technical advice,
heightening awareness and financial incentives in the
following areas : the control of energy and raw
materials, the development of renewable forms of energy,
waste disposal and recycling, air and soil pollution
control, the development of clean technologies, and noise
control. It has three technical centers (in Angers,
Paris-Vanves and Valbonne Sophie-Antipolis) and 26
regional officies.

The ANDRA in an Industrial and Commercial
Public Corporation established under the law of December
19, 1991.
It is under the supervision of the Ministries of the
Environment, Industry and Research, and is in charge of
the long tem management of radioactive waste. It plays an
active role in research and development programmes in the
field. It manages long-term storage centers, and designs,
and builds new storage centers. It also defines
specifications for the packaging and storage of
radioactive waste. It inventories the condition and
location of all radioactive waste on the national
territory. It publishes an annual inventory of
radioactive waste.

The "CSP" is an administrative Public
Corporation under the supervision of the Ministry of the
Environment. Its overall mission is to promote the
preservation improvment and development of the national
fisheries resources. It regulates fishing, offers
administrative, legal and technical assistance to the
Federated District Fisheries Associations, participates
in the management and development of fisheries resources,
these are the major activities of the "CSP".

The "IFEN" is an Administrative Public
Corporation established under the Decree of November 18,
1991 to meet the need to include environmental
considerations in the thinking of decision-makers by
establishing an up-to-date system of reliable information
concerning the environment. It serves as the statistical
service within the Ministry of the Environment, its
mission is to develop statistical pethodologies and to
disseminate scientific and statistical documents in the
various fields.
This agency acts within the framework of a European
partnership with the European Environment Agency, for
which it serves as the focal point in France?

The "Ineris" is an Administrative Public
Corportion established by the decree of December 7, 1990
and is in charge of furnishing technical expertise to
environmental actors, and in particular to the Ministry
of the Environment, in order to forecast and asses the
consequences of industrial activities on the environment
and people.
It intervenes in three areas : testing and research,
studies and consulting, standardization, certification
and regulation. Its missions involve : the environment
through the survey of the impact of water, air and site
pollution, ecotoxicology, and the prevention of
industrial risks and the analysis of their consequences
on the environment, property, and the health and safety
of tne populations.

Established over 350 years ago, originally as the
"Royal Garden of medicinal Plants", the
National Museum of Natural History is an Administrative
Public Corporation, under the supervision of the
Ministries of Higher Education, Research and the
Environment since 1992.
It works in the field of the earth sciences and space, of
paleontology, the life sciences and social sciences, it
conducts research programmes, contributes to the
preservation of the heritage of the natural and social
sciences, of materials and specimens, trains researchers,
disseminates and enhances the value of its acquired
knowledge.

The "ONC" is an Administrative Pulic
Corporation, and serves as a technical advisor to the
Ministry of the Environment.
Within the scope of its missions, it studies the trend in
numerous wildlife populations and carries out research on
species biology and the quality of natural environments.
It contributes to regulating hunting, controls and
coordinates the activities of District Hunting
Federations to which it furnishes legal advice. Finally,
it provides training and information designed to preserve
and develop wildlife.

Heir to the Royal Forest and Water Administration
established in 1291, the "ONF" has been an
Industrial and Commercial Public Corporation since 1965,
now under the supervision of the Ministries of the
Environment and Agriculture.
its mission of forestry management covers 12,4 millions
hectares (of which 8 million are in the French Overseas
Departments and Territories) of extremely varied forests
and natural spaces that are owned by the state and local
authorities. It management jurisdiction covers all aspect
of forestry management, including planning and
development, reforestation, the monitoring of plant
health, the restoration of mountain lands, welcoming the
public, the selling of timber, drawing up inventories of
resources and cooperation with research organizations,
etc.

The Conservatory of Coastal Areas and Lakeside Shores
is an Administrative Public Corporation, established
under the law of July 10, 1975 and is in charge of
purchasing natural sites threatened by degradation or
disappearance and preservin their value and diversity for
future generations.
The Conservatory protects 622 kilometers of shoreline,
about 10% of the coast spread over 43 départements in
contnental France and its overseas departments.In 1994,
the Conservatory's jurisdiction was extended to communes
adjacent to deltas, estuaries and certain lakes.
