The lake has a long memory. Decaying materials on its deep bed record the exuberance and changes in the lake over thousands of years.

Over the past 50 years, changes have taken place in the water quality, the shore area and fish stock of Lake Inari. The most significant effects on the condition of the lake have been the regulation of the water level and the resulting fish stocks and fishing.

Water quality – Is Lake Inari becoming eutrophic?
Regulation – Can the harmful effects of regulation be reduced?
Fish stocks – Do these cause problems?
