SAIT drives and media implement multi-function capabilities to provide both conventional, erasable recording, as well as a Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) feature. This unique advantage is made possible through the use of the Memory-In-Cassette (MIC) chip technology, together with special drive firmware that prevents data overwrite on media that is designated and created as WORM media.

Once recorded, SAIT WORM media cannot be re-written or re-formatted, but data can be appended. With the added WORM capabilities, SAIT drives, along with WORM media, will reduce the incidence of accidental or intentional erasure of data, enable time and date authentication, and facilitate quick search and retrieval of archived files for a variety of organizations and reasons.

SAIT WORM media can be used concurrently with conventional, erasable SAIT media to provide applications the ultimate in flexibility and investment protection. As a result, Sony's SAIT technology is leading the way in providing users with cost-effective solutions to meet their requirements for the ultimate in data protection.

SAIT WORM products, when released, are expected to meet the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC's) regulatory safety, security and integrity requirements.

Note that not all models of the SAIT drives contain the necessary firmware to provide the WORM capability. In addition, specific types of application software are required to be able to use the SAIT WORM capability as a complete customer solution. Please check with your SAIT solutions provider regarding the availability of SAIT WORM support.
