  Introducing eDonkey

Once eDonkey starts, it should look something like this (though probably a lot bigger).

At the very top of the screen there are 5 buttons,

- eDonkey Connection Icon. Shows the state of your connection to the eDonkey Network.

- eDonkey Network Connection Icon. Shows the state of your connection to the eDonkey Network.

- Options Button. Click on this button to open the Options Menu.

- Help Button. Clicking on this button will launch your default browser and load these help pages.

- Register Button. Clicking on this button will bring you to the registration page. Registration includes all future versions of the program! What a deal!

Navigation Tabs
Next there are 8 navigation tabs (you will only see seven if the eDonkey network has been disabled in your client).

Home - Shows basic information about the client, and showcases things you can downloads
Search - Allows you to search for content on the network
Transfers - Lists current uploads and downloads
Shared - Allows you to select which folders on your computer are shared
Media - Lists all files you are currently sharing (including files you are downloading now). Depending on your Operating System this tab may be integrated with a media player.
Friends - Lists your Friends on the network, as well as clients you are currently connected to.
Servers - Lists available servers on the eDonkey network.

Console & Status Bar
At the very bottom of the screen there are two grey areas. The top one will have scrolling text in it, this is the Console. The bottom one will show information on how many users are on the network, how many files, etc. This is the Status Bar.

Console - The console shows diagnostic messages received from servers, and generated by the client. You can also use the console to enter text commands into the client. To expand the console click on the small circular button on its right hand side. Generally you will not need to pay much attention to the console.

Status Bar - The status bar shows information about your clients current connection to the network. The one really important peice of information in the Status Bar is wether it says 'Reachable' or 'Unreachable' (you want it to say 'Reachable'). If the status bar shows you are 'Unreachable' please see our help pages on Resolving Unreachable Status.
