Friday 5 October 2007 at 1:00pmPublic Lecture

Public Lecture

Location: Library Reading Rooms

Dr Rim Turkmani, Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow, Imperial College London

By the Society's foundation in 1660, Britain had become the European centre for the study of Arabic, the key to unlocking the influx of knowledge from the Arab and Islamic world. This talk, with a focus on astronomy, will examine this interest in Arabic, highlighting the Arabic books and manuscripts in the Society's Library.
